    This session: Data-Led Decision Making

Strong associations don’t rely on instinct alone. They use data to guide growth, inform strategy, and strengthen leadership confidence.

We are privileged to welcome Jennifer Kingen Kush, DES, former Vice President and Executive Director of the Digital Experience Institute at PCMA in Chicago. Jennifer led the strategy, mission, and global roadmap of one of the most recognised digital experience institutes in the international association sector. Now based on a Otago, New Zealand.

Jennifer will explore how New Zealand associations can better use data to:

    • Drive membership growth with clarity
    • Strengthen board-level decision-making
    • Understand member behaviour more deeply
    • Turn insight into practical action
    • Build a culture of confident, evidence-based leadership

Associations already hold valuable data. The real question is whether we are using it intentionally to shape our future.

Designing Training That Delivers Real Value
A practical, one-day workshop for association professionals responsible for education, CPD, or events.

Too much association training is content-heavy, presentation-led, and delivers limited impact. This in-person workshop focuses on designing learning that actually works — starting with the change you want to see and working backwards.

    Planning training with outcomes first
    Through structured small-group workshopping, you’ll:

    • Start with the change you want to see, not the content you want to cover
    • Work backwards from outcomes to activities and formats
    • Use practical tools such as “Two Years From Now” and rapid ideation methods to clarify measurable learning goals
    • Apply a simple, repeatable design process you can reuse across programmes

This session is focused on real training challenges participants bring with them.

    Who should attend
    This workshop is ideal for:

    • Association staff responsible for education, CPD, or professional development
    • Event and membership teams working with subject matter experts
    • Anyone designing workshops, courses, or learning programmes without a formal L&D background
    • Associations looking to improve training quality and explore education as a sustainable revenue stream

    What you’ll gain
By the end of the day, you will be able to:

    • Identify what effective, “sticky” training actually looks like — and what to stop doing
    • Plan training by starting with outcomes, not content
    • Choose formats that match the learning need, rather than defaulting to presentations
    • Use simple, practical evaluation methods beyond post-event satisfaction surveys
    • Apply low-cost, high-impact engagement techniques you can reuse across programmes
    • Feel more confident designing training in-house and knowing when external support adds value

    How the day works
This is a highly practical, interactive workshop. Expect:

    • Minimal slides and maximum participation
    • Real examples from association contexts
    • Hands-on activities you can immediately apply back at work
    • Structured discussion with peers facing similar challenges
    • Practical tools and templates provided after the session

The workshop itself models good learning practice — so you’ll experience the approaches as a participant, not just talk about them.

    Why this matters for associations
Better-designed training leads to stronger engagement, improved credibility, and more sustainable education programmes. This workshop is about helping associations move beyond “running training” to delivering learning that genuinely adds value.

    You’ll gain practical tools to:

    • Greater clarity on what effective training looks like
    • A practical design framework you can reuse
    • Tools to improve engagement without increasing cost
    • Confidence in evaluating impact beyond satisfaction surveys
    • A redesigned training idea ready for implementation

    Format: In-person workshop
Who should attend: Association professionals responsible for education, CPD, professional development, events, and membership engagement

Governance for Associations Workshop is a focused, in-person workshop for Association Chairs, Presidents, CEOs, and Executive Directors to examine what effective governance looks like in today’s environment.

Good governance remains one of the most critical responsibilities of any association. Yet in practice, it is often where the greatest tension, uncertainty, and risk can arise. This workshop is designed to be practical, grounded, and discussion-based — not theory for theory’s sake.

The session will explore the core governance realities leaders face, including:

    • The respective roles of the Chair, Board, and CEO
    • Strategic alignment between governance and operations
    • Delegation, authority, and accountability
    • Risk oversight and compliance responsibilities
    • Common governance tensions — and how to manage them
    • Board performance, succession, and evaluation

Participants will engage in open, peer-level conversation, sharing real experiences and approaches from across the association sector.

    Format: In-person workshop
Who should attend: Association Chairs/Presidents, CEOs, and Executive Directors
